Abstract

1,050,846. Oxidation of cyclic ketones. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 31, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No. 37840/64. Heading C2C. Lactones are obtained by oxidizing cyclic ketones with H 2 O 2 in the liquid phase in the presence of an acid and a catalyst comprising an oxyacid of an element from one of the long periods of Groups IV to VI of the Periodic Table. The H 2 O 2 may be formed in situ from H 2 and O 2 by the method of Specification 1,041,045. Aqueous or aqueous acetone solutions may be used.
