Abstract

1,050,797. Tube expanders. SOCIETE DES FORGES ET ATELIERS DU CREUSOT. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 13, 1963], No. 37145/64. Headings B3J and B3Q. A tube expanding tool comprises a sleeve 2 of deformable material mounted on a rod 1 between abutments 7, 8 which are movable towards each other to compress the sleeve axially and thus expand it radially. The sleeve consists of a variable number of rubber rings 2 and the abutments 7, 8 are provided respectively on a sleeve 4 screwed on the rod 1 and on a sleeve 9 secured to a hydraulic cylinder 11. Sleeves 4, 9 are slit at 6 to produce radial expansion of the abutments 7, 8. In order to expand a tube 19 into tight engagement with an aperture in a plate 20, the tube is fitted against an abutment surface 21 and the rod 1 is then moved axially by a piston 12 in cylinder 11 whose space 17 is supplied with pressure oil through ducts 16, 18. The piston is retracted by a spring 14.
