Abstract

1,050,767. Substituted benzanilide anthelmintic compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 13, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 32130/63. Heading A5B. Anthelmintic compositions comprise one or more benzanilide derivatives of the general formula:- wherein W, X, Y, Z, M, P, Q and R, which may be the same or different, stand for hydrogen, chlorine or bromine provided that not more than two of W, X, Y, and Z, and not more than two of M, P, Q and R, stand for hydrogen, or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof, together with a pharmaceuticallyacceptable diluent or carrier. The pharmaceutically acceptable salts may be alkali metal or alkaline earth metal sats, e.g. Na or Ca salts, or the salts of non-toxic organic bases, e.g. piperazine, salts. Specified active ingredients are 3,3',5,5',6'-pentachloro-2,2'-dihydroxybenzanilide, 3,3',5,5'6 - pentachloro - 2,2' - dihydroxybenzanilide, 3,3',5,5'6,6'-hexachloro- 2,2'-dihydroxybenzanilide, 3,3',4',5,5',6,6'-heptachloro-2,2'-dihydroxybenzanilide, 3,3',5,5'- tetrachloro-2,2'-dihydroxybenzanilide, and 3,3', 4',5,5',6'-heptachloro-2,2'-dihydroxylbenzanilide. The compositions may be administered orally or parenterally in the form of tablets, boluses, capsules, aqueous or oily solutions, aqueous or oily suspensions, emulsions, sterile injectable aqueous or oily solutions or suspensions, dispersible powders, premixes suitable for addition to animal foodstuffs or mixtures with animal foodstuffs. The compositions may contain standard excipients including inert diluents, fillers, disintegrating agents, bacteriostats, bactericidal agents, sporicidal agents, stabilizing agents, thickening agents, preservatives, wetting agents, dispersing agents, suspending agents and colouring agents. They may also contain vitaminaceous materials, mineral salts and veterinary drugs suitable for oral or parenteral administration, e.g. anthelmintics (phenolhiazine, methyridine) and antibacterial drugs (benzyl-penicillin, or sulphaguanidine).
