[Also in Division B8] Rivets 4 are discharged from vibrating bowl 1 into orientating device 7 and thence passed down shoot 8 and at the bottom thereof are discharged singly by jaws 13, 14. Jaws 13, 14.-These operate by a double movement, viz. a movement as a whole axially, followed by a rotary movement. This is followed by a pivoting movement about pin 20 whereby the rivet is released from between the jaws 13, 14. Jaw 13 is secured to shaft 17 and jaw 14 is pivoted to jaw 13 at 20 and influenced by spring 21. The movements are effected by fluid cylinder 35 which operates slide 37. Slide 37, by means of cam 38 and pivoted arm 25, causes the axial displacement of the jaws 13, 14; and by means of cam 39, follower 45, arm 46, pulley 40 and belt 49 causes the rotation of the shaft 17 and therefore of the jaws 13, 14. Operation.-When fluid cylinder 35 operates, shaft 17 moves axially. This permits jaws 13, 14 to grasp the rivet 4 under the influence of spring 21, when pin 22 is displaced from cam 23. At the same time as the rivet 4 is thus displaced from shoot 8, jaw 13 moves into place to act as the stop at the bottom of the shoot. Shaft 17 is then rotated to cause the jaws 13, 14 to rotate as a whole through a suitable angle. The rivet is thus moved from the bottom of shoot 8 into its working position at a working station and is released thereat from between the jaws by the engagement of cams 33, 34 which cause the jaw 14 to pivot about pin 20.
