Abstract

1,050,407. Juice extractors. M. CALTABIANO. Aug. 27, 1964 [Aug. 29, 1963; June 24, 1964], No. 35072/64. Heading A4C. A machine for expressing juice and pulp from citrus fruits X comprises a pair of parallel channels 5 for feeding the fruits in rows, means 54 for bringing the fruits into contact with a knife blade 40 to be halved, means 36 for accommodating the fruit halves with their cut faces directed upwardly, tools 70 such as reamers for acting on both fruit halves to remove juice and pulp, and means 43 for ejecting emptied peels from the accommodating means 36. Fruits from a hopper 3 are fed along the oscillating conveyer channels 5 to be received singly in recesses 61 in a transfer member comprising a pair of spaced. sector shaped plates secured to a rotary shaft 53 oscillated through pivotted links by a drive motor 19 which also serves to oscillate the feed channels 5. Rotation of the transfer member 5 carries the fruit past the stationary halving knife 40 which passes between the plates 60 and the cut halves fall into hemispherical recesses 39 provided in the accommodating means 36 on both sides of the knife 40. The accommodating means 36 is vertically reciprocated in synchronism with the feeding device by the motor 19 whereby when in the raised position, the fruit halves are subjected to the action of reamers 70 driven in unison by a motor 71 through reduction gear 72. The accommodating means 36 is slotted to permit passage of the knives therethrough when the fruits are raised to the reamers 70. After removing the juice from the fruits the accommodating means is automatically lowered and the half peels are removed by an ejector comb 43 rotated on a shaft 55 in synchronism with the remainder of the operation, the comb 43 comprising crescentshaped teeth 44 which pass through slits 41 provided in the recesses 39 to engage the peel halves. Peel falls onto a net 47 extending over a juice collector tank 48 having an outlet 49. The reamer 70 has a corrugated working head. An alternative juicing tool (Fig. 9, not shown), which is intended for high speed rotation, has a cutting head comprising a semi-circular plate 91 with a recess 92 and a sharpened metal band 93 bent into a semi-circle and secured to and perpendicularly to the plate 91. The cutting head is housed within a spring 100 urged cage 94 when inoperative. In the operative position the cage 94 is engaged by a fruit half and moved upwardly against the spring 100 to firmly located the fruit half.
