Abstract

1,050,095. Esters containing mercapto groups. CIBA Ltd. June 4, 1963 [June 4, 1962], No. 22181/63. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Polymercapto-polyesters are obtained by esterifying polyhydric alcohols with a mercapto acid by heating in an organic solvent and stripping the solvent off in vacuo. In the examples mercaptoacetic acid is esterified with 1,1,1 - trimethylolpropane, glycerol, 1,1,1 - trimethylolethane, pentaerythritol, hydroxylated castor oil, a partial ester of pentaerythritol and soya bean oil acids, and an ester from 2 moles of 1,1,1-trimethylolpropane and 1 mole of dimerized soya bean oil acids and mercaptopropionic acid is esterified with 1,1,1 - trimethylolpropane. Mercaptoethanol ester of adipic acid is obtained by esterifying adipic acid with mercaptoethanol under similar conditions.
