Abstract

104,942. Myers, E., and Shelton Iron, Steel, & Coal Co. March 31, 1916. Ammonium chloride, recovered from gas by washing in the known manner with water at not less than 80‹ C. and 401b, pressure, is decolourized by agitating with preferably finely-divided carbon, the agitation being effected, for instance, by steam with or without air. It is preferred first to evaporate the solution, grind the solid salt with about 2 per cent. of its weight of nitro-hydrochloric acid, and dissolve in water, the solution then being treated with the carbon and boiled. The solution is finally neutralized with ammonia, filtered, and crystallized.
