Periodic-counter speed indicators.-Relates to apparatus of this type which, at regular clockcontrolled intervals, effects the advance, by the mechanism to which the indicator is applied, of an intermediate member from zero; the position reached at the end of the interval is communicated by a one-way driving connexion to a non-return indicating element, which is only brought back to zero when a restoring device is operated manually. The apparatus thus indicates the maximum speed attained since the previous resetting. A wheel 9, Fig. III., mutilated as shown to prevent overwinding, is driven from the meter or other shaft (not shown) through gearing 1, 4, 5, 6 and a worm 8, on a shaft one end of which is supported at 20, Fig. V, by a lever pivoted at 22. The lever is held down upon an adjustable stop 37 by a spring 25 connected to the core of a solenoid 27, which is periodically short-circuited by a clock switch to disengage the worm 8 and allow the wheel 9 to return to its starting position under the influence of a spring 11. A pin 12 on the wheel drives a pin 13 on a ratchet-wheel 14, which is connected to the pointer and is detained by a click 17. To reset the pointer, a three-armed lever 30 is moved by means of a push-rod 31 to lift the lever and release the click 17, whereupon the wheel 14 is returned to its zero position by a spring. To prevent unauthorized resetting, a push-button mounted in the casing of the meter opposite the push-rod 31 is perforated to receive a sealing- wire.
