A rail for use with a flanged wheel 28 has two upwardly facing zones, a first 16 engaged by the conical or cylindrical tread of the wheel and a second 18 engaged by the wheel flange periphery, the two zones being joined by a concave surface 20. The rail may be symmetrical and have two wheel flange zones so that it can be reversed, or it may be asymetrical for different curve radii.
