1, 048, 437. Automatic arc furnace control. ALLEGHENY LUDLUM STEEL CORPORATION. June 11, 1964 [June 18, 1963], No. 24374/64. Headiang G3R. An arc furnace electrode is positioned either according to the arc voltage compared with a reference 54, or by the frequency of voltage discontinuities,which through an amplifier and motor 60 positions a potentiometer slider 64. Any difference voltage between this and another potentiometer slider 66 positioned by the electrode drive is detected by an amplifier 79 which drives through an amplidyne 80 a motor 40 or hydraulic ram to restore the arc voltage.
