One or a number of towel dispensers in which a measuring device controls the length of a portion of clean towelling each has a monitoring device comprising electric contacts actuated, e.g. by mechanism on the measuring roll, each time a portion is dispensed, and a central monitoring station is provided having an equal number of indicators indicating the portions used, and/or the portions remaining or when the remaining portions reach a predetermined number. A visible or audible alarm may be provided.
