Abstract
1,047,401. Electromagnetic relays. G. LEVINE. Jan. 17, 1964 [Jan. 18, 1963], No. 2162/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Division G1] The operation of an electric load L is monitored by connecting in series with it a hollow solenoid R inside which are magnetically actuated contacts 21, 23 which connect an indicating device such as a lamp A to a current source. The load may be a motor or heater, and each of several loads may have its own monitor. The solenoid R is carried on a flat base 12 with mounting holes at each end (17 in Fig. 2, not shown) which has its bottom surface divided by ribs 13 into channels with six terminal screws T. The contact device 5 has a hermetically sealed envelope 19 of glass or other insulating material inside a tubular core 18. One contact arm 20 is of resilient ferromagnetic material and when the load is taking its normal current the field in the solenoid deflects the arm so that the contacts 21, 23 close.
