Abstract

1,046,686. Photographic printers. BUCKBEE-MEARS CO. June 1, 1965, No. 23195/65. Heading G2A. A method of, and apparatus for, photoprinting a pattern of graded size spots on to a sheet 22 of photosensitive material comprises the steps of covering the sheet with a mask 24 including opaque areas and a plurality of uniformly sized transparent areas defining the desired pattern, projecting uniform light of fixed intensity on to the sheet 22 through the mask and varying the exposure time of areas of the film according to the desired size of the corresponding spots. The sheet 22, mounted on a glass support 20, and the mask are rotated inside a light tight housing, a stationary light stop 30 having a slit 44 being provided between the mask and a light source 34 comprising a bulb within a rotating reflector 36. Alternatively, the stop 30 may be rotationally driven while the film and mask remain stationary. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a stationary opaque light stop covers the stationary mask, the light stop having a variable aperture to effect different exposure times for different areas of the film.
