Abstract

1,045,828. Valves; friction brakes. ANDALE CO. May 27, 1965, No. 25018/65. Headings F2E and F2V. Rotation or translation of a valve operating shaft connected to. shaft 8 is effected in either direction by planet gears 26 which are connected via side gear 28, to an input worm 34 rotated by a reversible electric or other motor and to a side gear 48 which is braked by a jamming roller mechanism effective in either direction and comprising rollers 53, 54 which are jammed by cam surfaces 51, 52, on the shaft of gear 48;. against a torque, ring 76 which is provided with limited angular displacement resisted by plungers 82, 87 loaded by a spring 92 connecting to actuating rollers of limit switches 106, 107, the setting whereof is adjustable by screws 116. The rollers 53, 54 are contained within U-shaped spring clips 58 slidably located in peripheral grooves 56 and 57 and supplementary hand actuation of the valve is provided,from hand wheel 68, containing a name plate 72, which disengages the jamming rollers 53, 54 by means of pins 121 secured to the end of the hand-wheel shaft 61 and which engages a keyway 126 of the shaft of side gear 48 with a key 127; the worm 34 providing the reaction. The relative angular movement of the hand wheel 68 is such that the engagement thereof with the side gear takes place between the disengagement on one of the jamming rollers 53, 54, and the engagement of the other to avoid being driven by the motor. The shaft .8 is provided with an indicator gear drive 19, 21 leading to indicator position limit switches.
