Abstract
Plant growth regulating agents, e.g. for producing premature and increased tillering, contain a compound of formula RCOOCH(OR1)-CCl3 or RCOOCH(OR1)CH2Cl, where R is C1- 4 alkyl containing at least 2 chlorine atoms and R1 is C1- 8 substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, or C5- 12 cycloaliphatic, or C6- 10 aryl or aralkyl (see Division C2), and may also contain dispersing agents and water, as well as conventional solid or liquid carriers.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1044263/C2/1> or <FORM:1044263/C2/2> in which R is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and substituted by at least two chlorine atoms, R1 is an unsubstituted or substituted linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or a cycloaliphatic group having 5 to 12 carbon atoms or an aryl or aralkyl group having 6 to 10 carbon atoms. The compounds are prepared by reacting chloral hemiacetals or chlorinated ether alcohols with acid chlorides preferably in an inert solvent and in the presence of a hydrochloric acid acceptor.ALSO:Plant growth regulating, e.g. retarding, agents contain a compound of formula RCOOCH(OR1)CCl3 or RCOOCH(OR1)CH2Cl, where R is C1-4 alkyl containing at least 2 chlorine atoms and R1 is a C1-8 substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl radical or a C5-12 cycloaliphatic group or a C6-10 aryl or aralkyl group (see Division C2). The compositions may contain insecticides, fungicides, bactericides, other herbicides, or conventional solid or liquid carriers, and dispersing agents.
