Abstract

1,043,202. Resilient jaws for article-engaging devices. C. H. BENNETT. Jan. 7, 1963 [Oct. 10, 1961], No. 36318/61. Heading B8H. The load-engaging faces of the arms of a gripping and lifting device, e.g. as described in Specification 870,866, have rows of resilient tubes 1-5 attached thereto. Rods 7 pass through the tubes which are attached to a plate 6 by screws 7. The plate 6 is attached to a further plate 11 by a bolt and slot 8, 9 so that the plate 6 can move when a slab of expanded rubber 10 is compressed. The tubes may be oriented as desired and filled with compressed air or polyethylene. The slab 10 may be omitted. The separate tubes may be replaced by a single folded tube or by a strip or strips which may be of channel cross-section. Either or both of plates 6, 11 may be dished or U- shaped in cross-section. The strips may be attached directly to the plate 11. The plate 6 may be resilient.
