Abstract

1,043,080. Tobacco smoke filters. A. H. FLEISCHMANN. Aug. 24, 1965, No. 36325/65. Heading A2C. A tobacco smoke filter is impregnated with an unsaturated fatty acid and/or a salt thereof. The acid is selected from aliphatic acids of the general formula C n H 2n-1 COOH, C n H 2n-3 COOH, C n H 2n-5 COOH or C n H 2n-7 COOH, for example, oleic acid, arachidonic acid, linolenic acid, sorbic acid, linoleic acid or linolinic acid. Preferably the acid has from 6-22 carbon atoms. The acids salts are preferably the alkali metal, ammonium or zinc salts. The acid or acid salt may be applied from a solvent by immersion of the filter in the solvent, or by spraying the solvent on the filter, followed by drying.
