Abstract

1,043,004. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Feb. 11, 1964 [Feb. 13, 1963]. No. 5761/64. Heading H2A. A magnetohydrodynamic generator comprises two combustion chambers Ch1, Ch2 and ducts T1. T2, enclosed in the same refractory housing R and subjected to the same transverse magnetic field wherein the working fluid flows in opposite directions in the two ducts. Coolant flows in passages in the duct walls in the same direction as the working fluid in the adjacent duct. The coolant comprises the fuel for the combustion chambers and coolant for G1 is injected into combustion chamber Ch2 of generator G2 and similarly the fuel supply for G1 is the coolant of G2. The generator output may be controlled by varying the volume of coolant flowing. Since the generators have substantially identical currents flowing in opposite directions in the same magnetic field, " armature reaction ' " effects are eliminated and the electrodes E of each generator may be connected in series to double the output voltage if the generators employ the Hall effect.
