Abstract

A pigment concentrate is prepared by grinding the pigment with polyethylene or polypropylene wax in water using a comminuting device provided with solid grinding members, e.g. with glass or porcelain balls or hard pebbles. The polypropylene wax may be obtained by degrading isotactic polypropylene by heating. Specified pigments are carbon black, titanium oxide, iron oxides, cadmium pigments, azo pigments, anthraquinones, phthalocyanines, dioxaines, quinacridones, indigoids, perylenetetra carboxylic diimides and perinone pigments. Optional ingredients are small amounts of alcohols and wetting agents. The concentrates may be used for colouring polyolefins or polyvinyl chloride.
