Abstract

A structure is damp-proofed by injecting two co-precipitating agents into drilled holes at two spaced points. A potential difference of 24 volts may be maintained between the two points. The agents may be injected in the form of solutions, emulsions, or solids. The structure may be of brickwork, concrete, stonework, or timber. Coprecipitating cationic and anionic agents may be employed. The cationic agent may be aluminium sulphate, n-dodecylamine acetate, n-dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, or n-octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. The anionic agent may be potassium oleate, sodium n-dodecyl benzene sulphonate or the potassium salt of linseed or groundnut oil fatty acid. A silicone or polyvinyl acetate may also be injected.
