Abstract
1,042,436. Films. MILES ITALIANA DERIVATI AMIDI-M.I.D.A. S.p.A. June 19, 1963 [June 25, 1962], No. 24420/63. Heading B5B. [Also in Division A2] In making a transparent, edible film, e.g. for wrapping and packaging foods, an aqueous solution containing 2 to 50%, by weight of gelatine, casein or albumin is mixed, at a temperature between 25 degrees and 60‹ C., with 5 to 70% of an innocuous plasticizer, such as glycerol, sorbitol or xylitol, and with 0.01 to 20% of dialdehyde starch, based on the dry weight of gelatine, casein or albumin. Reticulation of the gelatine, casein or albumin occurs due to reaction between its amino groups and the aldehydic groups of the dialdehyde starch. The resulting mixture is cooled to a temperature between 20‹ and 35‹ C. and spread on a supporting surface to form a film, which is dried at room temperature and then at 40‹ to 100‹ C., e.g. in hot air, and finally detached from the supporting surface.
