Abstract

A neutralized terpolymer is formed by polymerizing vinyl acetate, crotonic acid and a half-ester of maleic acid which is selected from the methyl to the lauryl esters. The terpolymer may contain 3-8% of crotonic acid, 35-85% vinyl acetate and 8-65% of monoalkyl maleate and may be formed by refluxing the monomers for 5-20 hours in ethyl alcohol in the presence of benzoyl peroxide. The terpolymer may be neutralized with 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propane diol.ALSO:A hair spray comprises a neutralized terpolymer which is formed by polymerizing vinyl acetate, crotonic acid and a half ester of maleic acid which is selected from the methyl to the lauryl esters. The terpolymer may be neutralized with 2-amino-2 methyl-1, 3-propanediol, dissolved in ethyl alcohol and sprayed using a fluoro-carbon propellant.
