Abstract
A carding cylinder 1 (see Fig. 1, not shown) has a strip of plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, wound helically thereon between metal end collars 5 to form an intermediate layer on which card clothing, preferably in the form of a steel strip wound about the cylinder on edge and provided on its outer edge with teeth, is located. The plastic strip preferably has a rectangular cross-section and is formed with a recess therealong in the interests of lightness. The radial height of the collar 5 and strip is arranged to be the same. The strip may be attached to the cylinder by adhesive and locating pins 3 are passed through the collars 5 into the strip. The outer surface of the strip may be ground to receive the clothing. To prevent electrostatic charging the strip and collars may be painted with a conducting paint and pins 11 provided to connect the outer surface of the strip to the cylinder, alternatively the plastics material used may be conducting, e.g. it may contain graphite.
