Abstract

104,060. Jones, W. H., and Bishop, W. C. April 3, 1916. Covers, wagon and like.-Relates to a tarpaulin support of inverted-U shape with the legs of the U pivoted to the ends of the vehicle. The lower end a<2> of each leg is bent at an angle to the upper portion a', and the ridge of the support in the inoperative position rests against or adjacent to the sole-bar of the vehicle, while allowing the door or doors on that side of the vehicle to be opened. The ridge of the support is bent near each end as shown at a<3>, to enable the central portion in the inoperative position to be clear of the door when this is opened. A counterweighted hook i<1> engages the ridge automatically to retain the support in the inoperative position. In the position for use, each leg a<1> bears against a stop d, which is fixed to the end of the vehicle and is provided with a flange d', and a locking-pin e<1>, Fig. 5, is adapted to have a bayonet-joint engagement with a hole in the flange d' and to enter a hole in a plate d' fixed to the vehicle. A coiled spring f is provided to assist the return of the support to the operative position.
