Abstract

1,040,223. Centrifugal-strainer drum. SALZGITTER MASCHINEN A.G. May 25, 1965, [June 19, 1964], No. 22087/65. Heading B1D. In a centrifugal-strainer drum comprising an impervious wall surrounding a straining sieve 7, 8, the axially central portion 16 of the wall, to which portion slurry is delivered, is of smaller internal diameter than the axial end portions 9, 10, the additional annular gaps between sieve 7 and the wall being filled by additional annular sieves 13, 14 in portions 9, 10, and the only liquid outlets 17, 18 are provided in the end walls 2, 3 of the drum, in alignment with sieves 13, 14. In Figure 2, the diameter variation is achieved by shaping of the impervious wall, but in Figure 3 (not shown) an annular element is inserted to narrow the internal diameter of an otherwise uniform drum wall. The arrangement is said to prevent uneven distribution of slurry, since liquid begins to separate off only when the slurry reaches the axially inner edges of portions 9, 10.
