In a workman's time keeping device, inserted tokens 2 (Fig. 4, not shown) are scanned at 1 and the data thereon stored, in a buffer store 3 and then in a predetermined order in a main store 6 determined by a selector 5 such that the data may be read out through selectors 8 to one or more recording devices 9 in said predetermined order. Preferably the order corresponds to a personel wages sheet. The buffer store 3 comprises relays or magnetic cores and the scanning is checked by comparison of two rows of identical punched digits on the token and by checking the sum of the digits, also punched. Any errors are counted and indicated. The time of receiving the data may also be stored by simultaneous reception of data from a timer 10 to operate an electromagnetic stepping switch (Fig. 3, not shown). The information may be stored in order of reception on a magnetic tape store 33. The address of the data, being a function of the data itself, is selected at 5 and the data transferred to the store 6, which comprises relays or a magnetic core matrix, for subsequent read-out through a selector 8 to the punched card or tape recorders 9. Two groups of scanners may be provided, one for checking-in and one for checking-out, whereby the stored data is cancelled. Additional data may be added to the store 6 by a control unit 63.
