A mattress, especially for infants or invalids, comprises a resiliently deformable body 1, e.g. of foamed plastics, a ribbed sleeve 2, 3 of water-impervious material, e.g. reeded polyethylene, surrounding the body 1, and a porous cover 5 of towelling material overlying the sleeve 2. The cover 5 has cotton material secured to its ends to define pockets to receive the mattress ends.
