Abstract

The invention comprises the compounds of formula <FORM:1038190/C2/1> where n is 1-8, p is 0-5, m is 0-5 and X is a monovalent inorganic radical; and the production of these compounds in which X is F by reacting hexafluoropropylene epoxide with I(CF2)n + 1-O-(CF2CF2O)p -CF2COF e.g. in a polar organic medium such as an aliphatic polyether of 4-16 C or a hydrocarbon nitrile of 2-12 C, or in a non-polar solvent such as a halohydrocarbon in the presence of a quaternary ammonium chloride, bromide or carboxylate; in either type of solvent an alkali metal fluoride, a quaternary ammonium fluoride, silver fluoride or an alkali metal perfluoroalkoxide may also be present. Compounds in which X is Cl, OH, ONa, OK, OCs or ONH4 may be obtained by hydrolysis and/or other standard reactions from the fluoride.
