Abstract

1,037,384. Separating solids from fluids. MOLBROS Ltd. July 22,1964 [July 30,1963], No. 30082/63. Headings B1D and B1T. Fluid containing solids is introduced through inlet 27 and a sleeve valve 25, 26 to a passageway 20 passing through a vertical stack of discs, the filtrate percolating through interstices formed in the plates to a space 18 within a casing 10 to be withdrawn through outlet 19 and a screw worm 21 compressing and discharging the solids through a plate valve 29-32. The discs are maintained in a state of compression by springs 15 acting on a pressure plate 14 and a bellows 28 allowing for variation of degree of compression. The discs are of polythene or similar plastics material, and the screw worm and other parts of the apparatus are coated with nylon or other plastics material. The worm is spaced from the bore 20 to allow a build up of filter cake. A spring loaded four bladed knife 32 rotates with the worm and cuts off into pellet form the extrusions forced out of holes in the extrusion plate 29 by the worm. The blades of the knife are arranged to close outlets 30 while inlets 25 register with inlet 27. To clean the filter discs the direction of flow is reversed with worm stationary, inlet ports 25 closed and outlet 30 open.
