Abstract

A moulding composition comprises an amineformaldehyde-cycloaliphatic ketone resin and a filler. The preferred components of the resin are amine: melamine, urea, or benzoguanamine; ketone: cyclohexanone or an alkyl-cyclohexanone. A melamine-formaldehyde-cyclo-hexanone resin is particularly preferred. The ratio of amine to keto groups is preferably not less than 2:1. The resin is suitably prepared by adding the amine to an alkaline or slightly acid aqueous solution of the ketone and formaldehyde previously condensed in alkaline solution. The solution may then be compounded with the filler, with or without e.g. a catalyst, lubricants, or pigments, and hot-milled, cooled and ground. In examples, a melamine-cyclohexanone-formaldehyde is mixed with cotton linters, dried, mixed with chloracetamide and cadmium stearate, milled, and moulded. Phosphoric acid may be added after the melamine.
