Abstract
A hardened composition is prepared by taking a rubbery homopolymer or copolymer of butadiene containing more than 50% by weight butadiene that has been prepared by solution polymerization in the presence of a lithium alkyl catalyst and the butadiene of the polymer having a high 1,4-structure but less than 70% cis-1,4 and less than 10% 1,2-structure, dissolving it in a vinyl monomer or a mixture of vinyl monomers and reacting the resulting solution in the presence of a free radical catalyst. Base polymers exemplified are polybutadiene and a copolymer of butadiene and 0.1% divinyl benzene. Vinyl monomers exemplified are styrene, vinyl toluene, and a mixture of styrene and divinyl benzene. The catalyst used is benzoyl peroxide.
