Abstract
1,035,733. Rotary duplicating machines. W. RITZERFELD and G. RITZERFELD. March 9, 1964 [March 22, 1963; May 22, 1963], No. 9795/64. Heading B6C. A rotary spirit duplicating machine for printing selected lines or sections from a master sheet fixed on the cylinder 1, Fig. 2, with its lines extending axially of the drum comprises an impression roller 8 mounted for controlled movement into and out of co-operation with the cylinder 1, a plurality of control cams mounted on a shaft 9 and displaceable parallel to the axis of the cylinder 1 for controlling said cooperation, a plurality of electromagnets 43-48 for moving the heading and line control cams into or out of the range of sensing rollers 24 and 25 respectively, and levers 20, 21 and toggle joints 28, 29 which link said rollers to the roller 8. The roller 24 is adapted to cooperate with a heading cam 10, heading extension cams 11a, 11b, and a whole page duplication cam 13, and the roller 25 cooperates with line printing cams 15a, 15b and 15c. The line cams are peripherally displaced through a pawl stepping mechanism 35-41 operated by switching rollers, Fig. 1 (not shown). The electromagnets 43-45, which have different strokes, displace the cams 11a, 11b and 13, the cams 11a, 11b, for instance, being moved when two keys are closed to energize the electromagnets 43, 44 and move a switching rod 58. The rod 58 moves the cams 11a, 11b via levers 60, 62 and a switching fork 66 having a screw 67 engaging a helical groove 65 in a rockable member 64. After the printing of the heading the roller 8 is tripped away from the cylinder 1 and the keys are opened so that the rod 58 is returned to its initial position by a spring 55. The line cams are similarly displaced by the electromagnets 46-48. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 a switching bridge 80 is provided with two pins which engage in a groove in the heading cam flange 14a, Fig. 2, and the bridge is connected to a rod 83 carrying a plate 84. The armatures of three electromagnets 88-90 are connected to links 85-87 which are in turn connected to the plate 84, the arrangement being such that when electromagnet 88 is energized the plate 84 is rotated slightly and the cam 11a, Fig. 2, is moved within the range of the roller 24. Energization of the other electromagnets rotates the plate accordingly and moves the respective cam within range of said roller. Alternatively the electromagnets may have rotatable armatures which act directly on the rod 83. The embodiment of Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) is similar to that of Fig. 4 but the electromagnets have different stroke lengths. The keys controlling the electromagnets may be replaced by relays in turn controlled by photo-cells which receive reflected light from copy sheets or from the master sheet. The relays may alternatively respond to a programme which may also control the setting of the line cams. The apparatus shown in Fig. 10 includes a photoelectric sensing device 120 having a lamp 121 and photo-cells F1-F3 for detecting markings such as 123 on a copy sheet 31a and energizing electromagnets to move heading cams accordingly, and a lamp 122 and a photo-cell F4 for detecting marks such as 124 and de-energizing the electromagnets so that the heading cams are returned to their initial positions.
