An infra-red projector has a source of radiation e.g. an electric lamp, a reflector and a cover plate comprising a support to both sides of which are applied one or more thin layers having filtering properties with respect to visible radiation, e.g. a coloured foil of resin or gelatine. Each foil is a few tens of microns in thickness and a number of foils may be applied to each surface so that the resultant thickness does not exceed 300 microns, the required-filtering properties being obtained by first immersing the foil in a suitable dye.
