Abstract

1,034,411. Underground elevators; hoists. loading and unloading ships and aircraft; A. LODIGE. Jan. 8, 1963, No. 868/63. Headings B8E, B8H and B8L. The shaft 2 of an elevator interconnecting ground level 1 and an underground floor 3 is provided with a recess 16 adapted to accommodate a shaft cover 6 when the elevator cage 4 is lowered, the cover 6 comprising walls provided with doors 10 and a cover plate 7. The cover 6 is raised by the cage 4 and may be looked in the raised position by bolts 13 in the wall of the shaft engaging in openings 14 in the wall of the cover 6. The floor of the cage is provided with cover sheets 21, Fig. 2, secured on sliding members 22 which are urged outwardly by springs 23 to press rollers 24 against the wall of the shaft and the wall of the recess 16 in order to bridge the gap between the floor of the cage and the wall of the recess. In a modification, Fig. 3, 3a (not shown) displaceable door frames 30 are adapted, when the cover 6 is projected, to be moved into the shaft by an amount equal to the wall thickness of the wall 31 of the cover 6. When the floor of the cage is raised above ground level, a hook 38 on a strip 37 on a spring roller engages a recess 39 in the cover wall 31 and the strip covers the gap between the floor of the cage and the ground level. In a further modification, Figs. 5, 5a, 5b, 6 (not shown), the gap between the cage and the wall of the recess 16 is covered by a tongue 54 pivoted on a bracket 55 on the cage 4 and guided by a roller 56 engaging a guide rail 57 on the wall of the shaft. The cage 40, Figs. 4, 4a (not shown), is guided by rollers 41 secured to a frame part 43 of the cage and engaging a column 42 freely and rotatably arranged in the shaft. To prevent rotation of the cage, the frame part 43 carries an arm 44 which is guided by a roller 45 on a channel member 46. In a further embodiment, Figs. 7, 10 (not shown), a structure, provided in its walls with doors and provided with a stairway interconnecting the doors, is movable in the shaft and is adapted in one position to project from the upper end of the shaft, in which position the upper door is at ground level and provides access via the stairway and the other doors to underground floor levels. Loading and unloading ships.-A. guide shaft 258, Fig. 13, is rotatably mounted in a shaft 255 in the wall of the quay 254 and a shaft part 263 is telescopically displaceable in the guide shaft 258. The upper end of the shaft part 263 is provided with a door 265 leading to a telescopic gangway 266, 267 adapted to be locked to a hoist shaft 270 on the ship. The gangway may alternatively be in communication with the ship's deck. An opening 277 is formed in the shaft part 263 and is provided with a door carrier 281 for a door 276. The opening 277 is covered by roller blinds 280, 282. An elevator cage 283 is movable vertically within the shaft part 263. In a modification, the loading device may be provided at an airport where the gangway would be adapted to be locked to the doorway of an aircraft. In a further modification, Fig. 14 (not shown), the shaft 300 is mounted for rotation only and is provided with a vertically movable door carrier 310 movable in an opening 312 covered above and below the carrier by roller blinds 313, 314. In a further modification, Fig. 15 (not shown), the shaft 300 is rotatably supported on a wheeled carriage.
