Abstract

103,352. Bruhn, F. W. G. Jan. 28, 1916. Registering time of waiting, stoppage, or use of vehicles; with distance totalizers.-Apparatus for indicating the number and duration of the rotations of an intermittently rotating shaft, such as the main shaft of a taximeter, comprises two counters one driven from the shaft and the other by a clock which is stopped when the first shaft is at rest, the indications afforded being the distance run or the revolutions made and the time occupied thereby The distance or revolution counter 44 is driven from the shaft 38 through worm gearing 39 - - 42. Also driven from the shaft 38 through toothed gearing 43, 46 is a shaft 47, on which is secured one end of a spiral spring mounted in a barrel 48, the toothed portion 49 of which is similar to the wheel 46. The free end of the spring is in frictional engagement with the interior of the barrel controlled by an escapement 52. Mounted to engage with the wheels 46, 49 are two pinions 55, 54, the first of which is formed as a nut carried on the screwed upper part of a shaft 56, the remaining pinion being loose on the shaft and rotated through a spring 58 and a disk 59 secured thereto. A spring lever 61 adapted to stop the clock is engaged by a groove 60 formed in the upper part of the pinion 55. In operation, when the speed of the wheel 49 exceeds that of the wheel 46 due to the stoppage of the shaft 38, the pinion 55 moves up the shaft 56 and brings the spring lever into position to stop the clock, the movements being reversed when the shaft 38 commences to rotate again. The counter 66 is driven by worm gearing from the clock, which may be a continuously-running one thrown into and out of gear by the movement of the pinion 55. When applied to a taximeter, the time-drive is thrown into and out of gear by the flag, and the duration of the waiting times may be obtained by the difference between the time shown on the counter 66 and a counter showing the sum of the engaged periods. Alternatively, the apparatus may be modified to show directly the total of the waiting times.
