Abstract
1,033,065. Endless conveyers. PAGEDETROIT Inc. April 11. 1963, No. 14667/63. Heading B8A. An egg reservoir and transfer device 10 which is disposed between an egg delivery conveyer 18 and an egg receiving means 24, comprises a stationary platform 12 over which transverse slats 32 move longitudinally to impart motion to the eggs 23 and an endless chain 44 disposed along each side of the platform 12 and connected to the ends of the slats 32. The platform 12 is formed from a hard base 26, an intermediate cushioning layer 28 of resilient material and a flexible surfacing sheet 30, and is supported on bars 46 extending transversely between side frame members 42. The slats 32 which are thin enough to slide under the eggs 23 when they accumulate in the reservoir, are substantially non- flexible in their transverse direction and are attached by means of brackets 50 to spaced links 48 of the endless chains 44. These rigid slats may be replaced by flexible cylindrical cords, Fig. 6 (not shown), which are rotatably attached to pins on the chains 44 and roll along the platform 12. The lateral movement of the eggs 23 is restricted by side rails 52 covered by an egg protecting surface material and mounted on top of the frame members 42. The device 24 at the receiving end of the transfer device 10 comprises a series of spaced parallel plates 70 connected to a transverse bar 74, which is moved vertically by means of a lever 76 operated by a cam 80 disposed in the end of one of the sprocket shafts of the endless chains 44. Alternatively, a receiving tray 90, Fig. 7 (not shown), may be disposed at the receiving end of the transfer device 10. The eggs may be delivered to the transfer device 10 by means of a conveyer belt 86 over which are suspended egg deflecting rails 88, a conveyer belt 55, Fig. 4 (not shown), running in a channel and having an angled ramp adjacent the platform 12 or individual egg trays 60, Fig. 5 (not shown), mounted on a conveying element and tiltable once adjacent the platform 12.
