Abstract
103,273. Pressed Bearing Co. May 5, 1916. Addition to 100,448 Bearings.-Lined bearing-brasses are produced by coating or lining a backing-metal, such as brass, with a metal such as Babbitt-metal. The lining may be applied in a molten condition to. an unflanged strip or blank before bending in a press to semicircular shape, or may be applied in sheet form and soldered to the backing strip or blank, which may be flanged or unflanged. A strip a is fed by rolls B over a burner D, is cleaned by acid applied at c, is tinned by solder fed in strip form at F and smoothed by a copper-bit H, is coated with Babbitt-metal at J, and passes through con. solidating-rolis L, which may be cooled. The strip may be cut into lengths by dies or by saws, and the blanks are placed on a sectional die 11, held together by bolts, and are bent and consolidated by a die N operated by a press working at about 50 strokes per minute. The die 11 is formed with an ejector-plunger 15. The cleaning, tinning, and lining may be performed by hand.
