Abstract

1,032,681. De-icing equipment for aerofoils. D. NAPIER & SON Ltd. May 10, 1962 [May 12, 1961], No. 17495/61. Heading B7W. In an aerofoil hot gases flow from a spanwise manifold 11 through a slot 12 into a passage 13 where it heats outer skin 14, the gas escaping the rough spanwise jets 18, 19 placed near the limit of catch, i.e. the rearmost point along a chord of an aerofoil at which water is collected, and is aft of the leading edge by about 15% of the chord. The jets remove water flowing over the aerofoil surface and may be adjustable in width and angle at which the gas is discharged, Fig. 2, not shown.
