Abstract

1,032,130. Refractory bricks. MINERALIMPEX MAGYAR OLAJ-•S B‡NYATERM•K KœLKERESKEDELMI V‡LLALAT. Dec. 31, 1962 [Dec. 30, 1961], No. 49149/62. Heading F4B. A basic refractory metal-clad brick 20 has two U-shaped liners 20c, 20d of deformable material with edges facing each other on opposite wider brick faces, covered by two U- shaped metal liners 21a, 21b with edges facing each other on the narrower brick faces. The assembly is clamped between forces acting in the direction of arrows 25, 26 and compressed in the direction of arrows 27, 28 to produce a permanent deformation of 21a and 21b at the expense of the deformable material. An alternative, Fig. 2 (not shown), has the metal cladding pressed into gaps left between the edges of the two U-shaped liners of deformable material. A further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), utilizes deformable elements with adhesive layers on either side thereof and U-shaped outer metal casings. A variation of this construction, Fig. 4 (not shown), has L-shaped outer casings. The brick may also have a combustible organic deformable layer, e.g. paper, at the hot end, and an inorganic layer, e.g. asbestos, at the cold end, Fig. 5 (not shown). A modification, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), incorporates two brick materials, e.g. magnesite and chrome magnesite, separated by a metal plate with elongated corrugations and formed with an extension in the form of a suspension eye. This brick has deformable elements and also grooves formed in the brick material. A final embodiment, Figs. 9-11 (not shown), particularly suitable for dolomite bricks, has tongues cut in the metal casings so that they can be bent over to close the ends of the bricks. The deformable may be synthetic resins or paper treated with tar or paraffin wax, or adhesive bitumen. Besides paper, the deformable organic materials include wood chippings and plates, vegetable waste, vegetable or synthetic fibres, plastic or resinous materials and leather and rubber derivatives. Inorganic materials include asbestos, fibre glass, slag wool, perlite, mica and vermiculite.
