Abstract

Locking by frictional detents.-The connexions of a spring-applied brake for railway platform trucks are arranged to allow the application of the brakes either by raising or lowering the propelling- handle from ihe service position, and in the service position the tension of the spring is ineffective to move the handle, so that no strain is imposed thereby on the attendant. According to Fig. 1, the connexions include a bent link p connected to, and passing through a slot e<1> in, the handle c of the truck. In the service position of the handle, the pull of the spring h transmitted by the connexions p, k passes through the pivot d of the handle c. According to Fig. 3, a lever r is pivoted at r<2> to the fore-carriage of the truck, and the link p and chain k are connected to it. By adjusting the point of connexion p<2> of the link with the lever, the neutral or off position of the brake connexions can be made to coincide with the service position of the handle.
