[Also in Division E1] A pipe comprises a wall or walls of a rigid material, e.g. steel, having elongate cavities therein, and a compressible fluid, e.g. hydrogen, under high pressure, is enclosed within the cavities to prestress the pipe, the pressure in all the cavities being kept uniform, as by interconnecting the cavities by means of passages.
