Abstract

1,031,084. Moulding conductor bar assemblies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 1, 1964 [April 1, 1963], No. 13414/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Division H2] A stator bar comprising conductor bars 13 having strand insulation 15 is formed by subjecting an array of bars 13, placed between uncured epoxy resin impregnated mica mats 17, 18, to the action of a mould press, whereby the mats flow about and between the bars, the resin being subsequently cured. The stator bar is shaped by mould sections 5, 6, the latter being in two parts 7, 8 initially held apart by a spring 9 and brought together by a ram 12 to compact the array. The mats flow under the effects of heat and pressure when section 5 is lowered and steam is passed through conduits 4. Overflow grooves 10 are provided and conduits 4 may carry a cooling fluid after curing and prior to removal of the bar. The mats 17, 18 are formed by dehydrating mica, forming a pulp therewith in a liquid medium and laying the pulp down in the form of a paper. Thereafter the mica is impregnated with epoxy, epoxide or or ethoxyline resins including semi-solid epoxy resins derived from polyfunctional phenols of the novolac type. Suitable curing agents include boron trifluoride-organic base complex materials. The strand insulation 15 may be of resin bonded glass fibre-asbestos paper and a separator 16 may be of resin impregnated glass fibre.
