Abstract

1,031,066. Printing - surfaces. M. B. BEAVER. Aug. 13, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962], No. 31862/63. Heading B6C. A piece of resilient printing type 40 comprises an elongated base leg 42 having opposite ends and an upper surface, indicated by numerals 52, 54, and a lower surface 44, a bar portion 46 upstanding from and normal to the upper surface intermediate its ends and provided with opposite sides 48, 50, and a type face supported by the upper surface of the bar portion, said base leg 42 being of reduced thickness in the two regions adjacent the bar portion sides and the leg being of such thickness as to support its own weight and that of the bar portion without distortion. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the upper surface 52, 54 of the base leg is tapered as shown to provide the regions of reduced thickness so that when pressure is applied to the central portion no deformation of the bar portion 46 occurs and the type face therefore remains the same shape during printing. The surface 44 may be tapered instead of the upper surface, Fig. 8 (not shown) and in the embodiment of Fig. 6 the regions of reduced thickness are produced by two elongated grooves 64, 66 adjacent the sides 48, 50 of the bar portion. Fig. 7 (not shown) depicts similar grooves provided on the lower surface of the base leg. Pieces of the type which may be used to print numbers are held in position as shown in Fig. 2 in an annular groove 20, provided with a curved base 38, in the rim 12 of a wheel-like type holder 10.
