Abstract
A vaccine for Trynanosoma cruzi infections is prepared by subjecting a suspension of T. cruzi obtained in their crithidial form from a culture medium to a mechanical or physical treatment which disrupts their cellular structure. The disruption may be brought about by shaking with solid materials e.g. glass beads, by application of sonic vibrations, or by release of the suspension of microorganisms under pressure (350-1430 atm.) through a small orifice. The T. cruzi are preferably suspended in a physiological solution, e.g. physiological saline, together with an anti-oxidant, e.g. glutathione, cysteine or mercaptoethanol.
