1,030,262. Stamping; indexing - tables. PHILLIPS BROS. & ELLIS Ltd. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No. 6271/64. Headings B3B and B3Q. Indexing mechanism for a press or machinetool turntable comprises a plate 4, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), with indexing notches 5, a pivot 3 supporting the plate 4 and an arm 6 oscillated by a pneumatic cylinder 9, 10, a spring-pressed pawl 11 for locking the arm to the plate 4 in one direction of rotation and permitting the arm to return without the plate, and a pawl 21 for engaging the notches 5 and holding the plate between indexing steps. A ball or roller bearing 34 on the pivoted pawl 21 is pressed by a plunger into the notch 5, being assisted by engagement between the pawl and the adjacent end of the arm 6 at the end of the stroke of the arm. The arm 6 operates microswitches 50, 51. As applied to indexing a work-table 1 beneath a heated platen carrying a marking or embossing die, operation of switch 50 causes the platen to move down. A timer controls return of the platen, and a further microswitch operated towards the end of the return stroke, starts the return stroke of the indexing cylinder 9, 10. A forward stroke is initiated by switch 51 at the end of the return stroke. A bed 30 for the table 1 has feet 35 and a part 36 with a groove 37 for a felt pad.
