Abstract
1,028,980. Ribbon cables. WHITNEY BLAKE CO. Dec. 19, 1962 [July 6, 1962], No. 26064/62. Heading H1A. To facilitate connection to the conductors, ribbon cables are provided with holes in one or both of the insulation layers thus exposing the conductor. In the arrangement of the shown Fig. 1 ribbon conductors 13 of silver, copper or aluminium are sandwiched between two layers of a polyester, polyamide or a polyalkane. Holes 20 are provided in both the top and bottom layer so that the cable can be cut along the line 3 thus exposing the ends of the cable so that the cable can be ready stripped. The cuts can be made stepwise (Fig. 2, not shown) so as to produce connecting pieces of various types. An apertured edge 24 permits controls of automatic machinery. When the conductors are vaporized on to a lower layer, the upper layer only may be cut away (Figs. 5-8, not shown) or the upper layer may not adhere to the lower at selected points and may be provided with scorings to permits its ready removal at these points.
