Abstract

1,028,493. Electrophotographic processes. KALLE A.G. April 29,1963 [Nov. 2,1962], No. 16824/63. Heading G2H. An electrophotographic process for making copies from transparent originals mounted on cards stacked alternately with leader cards which comprises feeding the cards in succession from the stack to a scanning system which stores data derived from the leader cards in an electrical memory device, exposing the original on each card to light a number of times determined by the data on the associated leader card, projecting successive images of the exposed original on to adjacent portions of a web of electrophotographic material, thereafter developing and fixing the resulting images on the web and cutting individual copies from the web. Cards carrying originals and leader cards are stacked alternately in magazine 3a, such that feed rollers 6, 7 feed a leader card beneath a scanning brush 9 and into a receiver 16. Impulses indicating the number of copies to be made are stored in a memory, not shown. An original is then fed by reciprocating knife 3 from the magazine 3a past a photo-electric cell 11, thus causing disengagement of a clutch (not shown) in the drive to the card feed mechanism. The original is thus arrested in the exposure zone in front of lens 20; lens shutter 21 is then opened to project a light image on to the web of electrophotographic material held stationary in a projection zone 28 through the optical system of Fig. 2 (not shown). The web is unwound from a roll 32 past a corona discharge 33 and through zone 28 by an intermittently driven roller 34. The web is withdrawn continuously from a loop formed by jockey roller 42 by rollers 43. The latent image on the web is developed by passage through a trough 48. and fixed by an infra-red heater 49. The shutter 21 is controlled by the memory (not shown) to produce the required number of copies in succession on the web which is cut into individual copies by a knife. 54. The original is ejected by the feed mechanism after the last exposure.
