Abstract
1,028,022. Valves. LYON NICOLL Ltd. Jan. 11, 1963 [Jan. 11, 1962], No. 1156/62. Heading F2V. The closure member 5 is movable transversely across ports 2, 2<SP>1</SP> to control the flow. These ports are of variable width measured at rightangles to the direction of movement of member 5, whereby a non-linear characteristic is obtained. The port may be triangular with two curved sides, Fig. 2 (not shown), to give a flow opening proportional to the cube of the valve movement. The member may be of circular or non-circular, e.g. square, section. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), one of the passages opens out of the end of the bore 4 and provides a seat for the member 5. A three-way valve may have an inlet placed in communication with the passages 2, 2<SP>1</SP> constituting outlets.
