Abstract
1,027,955. Monogrammic signs. FERRANTI Ltd. Feb. 3, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1964], No. 4623/65. Addition to 934,001. Heading G5C. In a monogrommic sign of the type comprising rotatable discs 10 each with contrasting faces and carrying a permanent magnet 13, the means for operating a disc includes permanently magnetizable rods 14 each with a pole-face 15 adjacent the disc magnetically connected by a plurality of flux-permeable members 16 each with an energizing winding 17, the disc being rotated only by the simultaneous energization in the appropriate sense of at least a predetermined number (as shown, both) of the windings. Preferably the rods 14 are of carbon steel and the members 16 are of silicon iron. The discs may be arranged in a matrix having rectangular or polar co-ordinates.
