Abstract

Regulating delivery by opening suction valves. -The delivery of one or more pumps feeding an accumulator Q is controlled by the movements of the accumulator weight R by connecting the weight to mechanism for opening the suction valve D of the pump for a variable fraction of the delivery stroke so that the delivery is at every instant a function of the positions of the weight. In the example described, the weight R, by means of a weighted cable N and pulley M, controls the position of a cam K serving as the fulcrum of a lever F, which is pivoted to the pump plunger and to a link G connected to the lever H for opening the valve D. When the weight R is in the lowest position, the lever F is fulcrumed on the shortest radius of the cam, and the suction valve does not open during the delivery stroke; in its highest position, the lever is fulcrumed on the longest radius, and the valve is open during the whole of the delivery stroke.
